#WhyIGave—Five minutes with a donor, Priyanka

There are many options for giving back at GIVE.asia. Some donors choose to give back every so often, while others give back more regularly. ChildMed is GIVE.asia’s recurring donation program which gives every child access to urgent healthcare. Priyanka, a donor and past campaigner, tells us more about her journey of giving with GIVE.asia.

Thanks for taking time out today Priyanka. Let’s start by telling us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Priyanka and I am a sustainability professional. My interests include food, sports, technology and books. I am from India and I have lived in Singapore since 2010.

Please tell us a bit about your journey of giving.
My journey started when I delivered my son and the hospital anticipated a bill which was a huge amount for us. Seeing my child in NICU and thinking about how a large amount of money could severely compromise our future added to our worries. We decided to campaign and it was one of the reasons that my prematurely born child not only got the funds but so many blessings from kind-hearted people. He is now in the best of health fighting his prematurity symptoms every day. This was the start of my journey with GIVE.asia.

How did you find about GIVE.asia?
I got introduced to GIVE.asia when my friend created a campaign for saving the turtles. That was the first time I donated to this platform.

How do you use GIVE.asia?
I use GIVE.asia as a one-time campaigner and donor.

What makes you use GIVE.asia again and again?
GIVE.asia really helped me to tide through difficult times. Now, I am trying to slowly and steadily do my bit and give back to the community that has helped me.

What are you planning for the future in terms of giving/charitable work etc?
I hope to be able to continue to give and help the ones who need it. If given an opportunity, I would really like to volunteer with GIVE.asia too.

What would you recommend to those who don’t give back yet but want to?
Our small steps can make big differences. Don’t worry about the amount, every drop helps!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, Priyanka. We are very grateful to hear about your giving experience.
