#WhyIGave: Five minutes with a donor

GIVE.asia is proud to have built up a community of over 1.7 million givers over the past decade. We thought it was high time we speak to these donors to learn more about why they continue to give back. First in line is Belinda Hong, a recurring donor who has used GIVE.asia to make many donations over the years. Here, she tells us a little more about what drives her to give back time and time again.

Thanks for your time today Belinda. First things first, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Belinda Hong and I am 38 years old. I am a Singaporean and I reside in the east of Singapore. Currently, I run a local advertising agency with my husband in Singapore. We have one son.

Tell us a bit about your journey of giving.
It’s hectic and demanding in the advertising industry and our lives significantly changed when my son was born. My husband and I realised that there are much more important things in life than just our business and career.

We, therefore, decided to slow down our pace and re-look at the things around us. We started to look at how we could give back to society by reducing our waste and also giving to those less fortunate than ourselves.

How did you find about about GIVE.asia?
We first came across GIVE.asia through Facebook. We decided to check out the platform and website to learn more.

What do you like about GIVE.asia?
One of the campaigns we came across was a fundraising campaign for a little boy. I showed it to my son and asked if he would like to make a donation. He said yes and immediately chose the maximum amount he could give. I felt so touched that he understood and wanted to give back at such a young age. We then made the decision to become recurring donors.

The GIVE.asia platform is easy, flexible, and secure to use. I like that it’s simple to navigate the site and I can choose which campaign I want to donate to.

What are you planning for the future in terms of giving?
Once the COVID situation has improved, I want to take my son to do some volunteering for a charity. I will also continue to donate through GIVE.asia and give back to society.

What would you recommend to those who haven’t started the journey to give back yet but want to?
Giving back should always be part of our daily routine so we can become role models for our children. I would recommend starting small with a platform like GIVE.asia where it’s simple and easy to give back.

Thank you so much for sharing your valuable insight with us, Belinda. We have loved hearing about your giving journey.
