Often, they work at GIVE.asia in a voluntary capacity and maintain full-time jobs at the same time. In our Meet the Team series, we introduce members of our team and today we talk to Sammie. Here she shares about who she is, what she does, and why.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today Sammie. Can you share with us a little bit about who you are and what you do at GIVE.asia?
Hi, I’m Sammie, and I’m a Digital Marketing Specialist at GIVE.asia. I support with all things digital from generating awareness of campaigns to the GIVE.asia community on Facebook, to the emails you receive in your inbox. I am based in Vietnam and spend much of my time working on how we can optimise digital channels to help more people in need.
What does a typical work day look like to you?
My mission at GIVE.asia is to raise awareness of campaigns to relevant givers. So I spend most of my time with my team to find the most effective way to boost campaigns, mainly through Facebook and newsletters. From looking at data to tweaking campaigns, and from developing copy with the content team, to having team meetings, every day looks different.
Why do you work at GIVE.asia?
I want to help people in need in the right way, and I truly believe that GIVE.asia is the right way to help people in need. Through my years with GIVE.asia, I have realised a sad-but-true fact that some campaigns gain awareness really quickly and get the help they need within just a few days. However, some are not that lucky, maybe because the beneficiaries don’t have the right relationships/communities, or can’t tell the stories on their own. So I want to utilise my skills to help spread their stories to more people and gain the help they need to get through the tough times.
Tell us a fun fact about you.
I can’t start a day without a cup of coffee. I, therefore, need to start my meetings at a certain time of day!
Who inspires you the most?
My dad. He always does the best he can and never complains about life. He’s a man of few words and likes to entertain everyone with smart jokes.
How do you wind down after a busy day?
I chill out with my close friends or listen to music. My favourite kind of music is pop.
What’s your favourite book?
It has to be Harry Potter. It is the only series that made me keep reading until 3am even though I had a very important exam the following day.
What cause resonates with you the most?
Impact. I read updates from beneficiaries every week, and it’s such a wonderful feeling seeing they can have a better life, especially children in need.
